Live Scan Fingerprinting
Live Scan fingerprinting refers to both the technique and the technology used by law enforcement agencies to capture fingerprints electronically. It is commonly used for sexual offender registration, civil applicant and background checks. Live Scan fingerprinting reveals information about criminal history for identification, employment and licensing purposes by matching fingerprints and other identifying information to existing data files for an individual. Live Scan electronically scans and transmits fingerprints to the California Department of Justice via a specialized computer terminal.
We provide Live Scan services on a walk-in, first come, first service basis, on selected days of the week. Appointments are also accepted by calling 805-986-6618.

What to Bring
Applicants should bring in three copies of the "Request for Live Scan Service" form. The form should be completed by the agency requesting the Live Scan and by you, the applicant. The applicant must also provide valid, not expired, picture identification to us, such as United States issued driver's license/identification or passport. Forms are often given to the applicant by the agency sending the applicant in for the Live Scan.
The fees for Live Scan services are as follows:
- Rolling fee: $31
- Department of Justice (DOJ) Charge: $32
- FBI fee: $17
Payments may be made in the form of exact cash, check, or credit. All rates are subject to change and additional charges may apply depending on the type of application being processed. We will advise you of the cost once you arrive for your Live Scan.
In most cases, the results from DOJ come back within 72 hours. Please note that some delays can occur, however, for any significant delay DOJ will contact the requesting agency. The results from the Live Scan fingerprinting are either emailed or sent to the requesting agency listed on the Request for Live Scan Service form. Once the Live Scan process has been completed at our facility, please direct all inquiries to the agency handling your employment or licensing.
