Identity Theft

to obtain goods, services, credit, or to open fraudulent bank accounts?
YOU
ARE A VICTIM OF "IDENTITY THEFT".
Identity theft continues to be a major problem for banks, access
card/credit card companies and consumers. Once you discover you
are a victim of "Identity Theft" you should notify the
following:
(1) CREDIT BUREAUS. Immediately call the fraud units of the three
credit reporting companies.

CREDIT CARDS/ATM CARDS/ CHARGE ACCOUNTS. Contact all creditors immediately
with whom your name had been used fraudulently by phone and in writing.
Report the crime to the law enforcement agency with jurisdiction
in your case. A police report is required by credit card companies
to verify that you have been a victim of a crime.
(3) SOCIAL SECURITY NUMBER. Contact the Social Security Administration
to report fraudulent use of your social security number. The Social
Security Administration will only change information noted in their
files if they are notified in a timely manner. Notify the agency
by phone and in writing.
(4) DRIVER LICENSE NUMBER MISUSE. Go to your local DMV to report
fraudulent use of your driver license number. Put a fraud alert
on your old license number and obtain a new number. This is a must,
if you do not change your current license number the credit card/check
security companies will continue to report the number as a known
"credit risk".
In
dealing with the authorities and financial institutions, keep
a log of all conversations, including dates, times,
names and phone numbers. Confirm conversations in writing. Send
correspondence by certified mail. Keep copies of all letters and
documents.
