The Hueneme Masonic Cemetery, located east of the intersection of Pleasant Valley Road and Etting Road, was established in 1898. The first board of directors---all Hueneme residents---include Frank Petit, W.S. Saviors, Henry Levy, I. M. Poggi and Achille Levy. Senator Thomas Bard was a major financial supporter.
Frank Naumann was raised on a farm located just adjacent to the Hueneme Masonic Cemetery. In fact, Frank’s father would often remind his son that the graveyard residents were the best neighbors anybody could ever have. It’s no surprise to learn that Roberto Garcia (Oxnard’s Garcia Mortuary), who purchased the property in 2014, would invite Frank to research and write the cemetery’s history. This presentation is based on Naumann’s 2015 book.

Photographs always make history come alive; but photography makes for fascinating history as well. The Museum has invited Robert Allison, Ph.D.—whose academic career in the field of chemistry is impressive enough (he’s been a professor, dean, instructional vice president and interim president)—but more relevant to his subject, Photography: A Saga of Technology, Art and Innovation, he is a graduate of the Professional Photography program at the New York Institute of Photography.
Dr. Allison has been taking pictures ever since he was eight years old with his mother’s 1938 Kodak. Since then, the award-winning photographer has discovered that the technological innovations he has witnessed in imaging are a story in themselves. He not only hopes to demonstrate how the camera teaches us new ways to look at ourselves but he also intends to stimulate a discussion with the audience about photography as an art form. You won’t want to miss this very special presentation.
